Thornton finished fifth among rookies in scoring for the 2009-10 season at 14.5 points per game.
However, as a starter, he finished second behind consensus rookie of the year choice Sacramento Kings guard Tyreke Evans. Thornton averaged 19.8 points while playing 37.2 minutes in 17 starts. Evans scored 20.1 points per game in 72 starting appearances.

Thornton gained playing time when the team traded guard Devin Brown to the Chicago Bulls Jan. 25.
The injury-plagued Hornets (37-45) finished the year in 11th place, three spots out of the playoffs.
Thornton, a New Orleans native, is under contract with the Hornets through next season.

When I sat down to write my farewell column after working three years at the Flare, I intially thought, “oh crap.” Being contemplative is not my forte.

It’s like writing “thank you” cards. I abhor writing “thank you” cards. My mom can attest to that. It’s not that I’m ungrateful or unable to express how much something means to me; it’s that when I sit down and start writing, everything turns into flowers and butterflies and before I know it, I’ve turned a three to four sentence “thank you” for a $15 McAllister’s Deli gift card into a seven-and-a-half page free verse poem on the unparalleled generosity of the giver.

Because there is a sign ordinance and because the bridge crosses a Texas state highway, the Texas Department of Transportation essentially has jurisdiction over the bridge. TxDot has to grant the college permission to make any type of major visible alterations to the bridge.

This is part one of a three part series on looking back at the heritage of some of KC's legends.

A banner proclaiming “A star was born and her name is Gussie Nell,” hangs on the red, white and blue walls of the Rangerette Showcase Museum. An oil derrick, women’s residence, various events and traditions practiced today serve to commemorate this campus legend and the impact she had on KC.
Miss Gussie Nell Davis began her professional career as instructor of physical education and pep-squad director at Greenville High School in 1928. Drawing on her combined experience in music, dance and physical education, she trained the all-girl “Flaming Flashes” to use small wooden batons that she commissioned from a local furniture maker, as well as flags, various props, drums and bugles in increasingly complex dance-drills and marches.
