KC slips past Lamar

After an inclement weather delay stopped the game midway through the first half, the Rangers rallied late to beat Lamar 56-53. Guard Johnathan Phelps paced the Rangers with 13 points while forward Chris Angsomwine contributed 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. The game was marked by poor ball handling with both teams combining for 41 turnovers. The Rangers move to 10-8 on the season and 3-5 in conference play.

Following a 40-37 double-overtime loss to Tyler Junior College Oct. 10, KC head coach J.J. Eckert said his team had no room for error. Apparently, his message was well-received. The Rangers won their second straight conference game with a 68-36 demolition of the Northeastern Oklahoma Golden Norsemen Oct. 24 at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium.

Penalties abound against NEO

Despite a lopsided win over the Northeastern Oklahoma Golden Norsemen, KC head coach J.J. Eckert was concerned about the alarming amount of penalties piled up by the Rangers. KC was flagged 15 times for 125 yards, a number which does not include multiple plays which featured off-setting penalties. "Obviously, that's something we have to fix," Eckert said. "Late in the season that's something that can come back to haunt you." The flags included a variety of infractions, including three personal fouls.

Three-way tie for final playoff spot

Despite losing five of its first six games, KC took a huge step toward the playoffs Saturday in Athens. Not only did the Rangers get their first conference win, 39-24 over Trinity Valley Community College, the squad could also be in sole-possession of the final playoff spot with another victory this week. A KC victory over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (1-3) this week coupled with a Cisco (1-3) loss to Blinn College (4-0) would move the Rangers into fourth place in the SWJCFC, ahead of Cisco, NEO and TVCC (1-4).

Catching steam

KC was in desperate need of a win Saturday in order to stay in the Southwestern Junior College Football Conference playoff chase. The Rangers got the big performance they needed from a number of different players as KC rolled over the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals, 39-24, in Athens. “I think we’ve been sitting there waiting on it,” said J.J. Eckert, KC head coah. “We just haven’t been able to put together that complete game yet. It’s long overdue.”

TJC completes first season sweep of Rangers since 2006 Hoping to avenge an early season loss to Tyler Junior College, KC dropped a heart-breaker to the Apaches, 40-37 in double-overtime, Saturday at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium.

After rushing for just 341 yards en route to an 0-4 start, the KC Ranger football team found room to roam against the Arkansas Baptist Buffaloes Saturday night at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium. Led by Zavor Jones and Terrance Cannon, KC racked up 219 yards on the ground to lead KC to a 28-0 victory in a rain-soaked Homecoming contest

Third time not charm

BRYAN - The third time was a charm for No. 1 Blinn College. After rising to No. 1 in the nation for a third straight year heading into a regular-season matchup with KC, Blinn finally managed to escape with its top ranking in tact by virtue of a 31-21 victory Saturday at Merrill Green Stadium. Quarterback Cam Newton led the Buccaneer offense, rushing for a game-high 100 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Once again, the Rangers gave their opponents all they could handle in the first half. KC had an opportunity to grab the lead, but had two drives end deep in Buccaneer territory due to fumbles. Instead, Blinn went on to stretch its lead to 10 by halftime, 17-7, thanks to a 57-yard punt return for a score from Chad Froechtenicht.

Navarro ousts Rangers

After KC squandered chances to take control in the first quarter, the Navarro Bulldogs did not waste their chances in the second. Navarro, ranked No. 3 in the national junior college poll, reeled off three second-quarter touchdowns and ran away from the Rangers with a 42-17 victory Saturday night at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium. The loss drops KC to 0-3 for the first time since 2005, and the road ahead does not get any easier. The Rangers face No. 1 Blinn College Saturday at Blinn.
