KC Basketball wrapped up a successful season on the hardwood in 2019-2020. The Men’s team went 21-9 on the season and 12-7 in Region XIV play, and made another trip to the Region XIV tournament just before Spring Break under the direction of head basketball coach Brian Hoberecht. The Lady Rangers also had a winning season, going 22-9 and and 11-7 in Region XIV play, and playing a round into the Region XIV tournament under head coach Addie Lees.
It was also a great season for several players on both teams. On the Rangers’ side both Rodrigue Andela and Michael Thomas made first team All Region. Cameron Gooden was second team All Region and Tyron McMillian was Honorable Mention All Region. Gooden and Brendan Hoberecht were All Region Academic team. For the Lady Rangers, Ireneshia Johnson was named to the All Region team. She also joined teammate Jada Hood on First Team All Conference, with Sarah Matthews being named Honorable Mention All Conference. Alba Garcia Camarena and , Laraveun “Jazz” Randle were named to the All Conference Academic Team.
There were also multiple players who signed to play beyond KC. For the men, Andela, Yaounde, Cameroon sophomore, as a 6’8 forward, will be heading to Oregon State in the fall. Tyron McMillian, of New Orleans, La, will also be playing Division 1 ball as a Georgia Bulldog in the fall. For the women, Ireneshia Johnson, 6’ Houston sophomore, has with Grambling State University in Grambling, La., to continue her basketball career. Lady Rangers sophomores Annilia Dawn (from Amarillo), Arielle Wilson (Fayetteville, North Carolina) and Garcia Carmarena (Barcelona, Spain) all have offers but have yet to sign, according to Coach Lees. The future for both teams at Kilgore looks promising as both squads will be bringing back several team leaders.
