Team rises to No. 2 ranking before loss to Paris last week

The KC Ranger took a close win over Bossier Parish, 73-70, last Saturday in Bossier City.

KC led 42-39 at halftime, shooting 17-32 from the field and hitting 7 of 14 three-pointers.

Bossier was only 13-24 in the first half and hit 10 of 13 three-pointers.

The Rangers came out strong in the second half, shooting 11-25 to take the win over Bossier.

JaMarcus Weatherspoon led the team in scoring with 22 points, followed by Stefan Moody with 13 points. Tom Wamukota led the team defensively with 15 rebounds, followed by Kalif Wright and Aaron Dailey with 5 rebounds.

“I feel like the strengths of the team is the balance,” Coach Brian Hoberecht said. “The guys play good team defense. I really couldn’t tell you any weakness in the team. To improve on the rest of the season, I feel like if we keep pushing, working harder, add different things to the system, and remain consistent we will be fine for the rest of the season.”

The KC Rangers lost their second game of the season last Wednesday in Masters Gym to Paris Junior College, 68-66.

Paris led 44-32 at halftime,  shooting 16-27 from the field and hitting 6 of 9 three-pointers. KC was only 12 of 23 in the first half and hit just 1 of 7 three-pointers.

“I felt like the guys played hard the second half,” Coach Brian Hoberecht. “We dug a hole for ourselves the first half and couldn’t climb the mountain to get out of it.”

The Rangers was ranked No. 2 going into the game. In the second half Paris led 55-42 before KC outscored them 13 to 4 to cut the lead to 4 points.

KC got as close as one point toward the end of the game when it was 65-64, but Paris held on for the win.

Stefan Moody led the team in scoring with 15 points, followed by JaMarcus Weatherspoon and Kalif Wright with 11 points each. Tom Wamukota led the team with 6 rebounds followed by Moody’s 5 rebounds.

The KC Rangers defeated Panola College, 77-72, on Jan. 18 in Carthage.

KC led 43-37 at halftime, shooting 16-27 from the field and hitting 2 of 5 three-pointers. Panola was only 13-34 in the first half and hit 5 of 11 three-pointers.

The Rangers came out in the second half shooting 15-31 to take the win over Panola.

JaMarcus Weatherspoon led the team in scoring with 22 points followed by Aaron Dailey with 13 points. Tom Wamukota led the team defensively with 6 rebounds followed by Dailey’s 5 rebounds.

The KC Rangers beat Trinity Valley on Jan. 15 in Masters Gym, 74-70.

KC led at halftime 40-31, shooting 15-28 from the field and hitting 4 of 12 three-pointers. Trinity Valley was 11-30 from the field and shot 1 of 6 from the three point line.

The Rangers came out in the second half shooting 6 of 23 from the field. Trinity Valley was 13 of 29, but the Rangers held on to the get the 74-70 win.

Stefan Moody led the team in scoring with 21 points followed by Kalif Wright with 14 points. Aaron Dailey led the team in rebounds with 8 followed, by JaMarcus Weatherspoon’s 5 rebounds.

Stefan Moody leads the team in scoring, averaging 18.3 points a game, followed by JaMarcus Weatherspoon with 14.5 points a game. Stefan Moody also leads the team in three-pointers with 44 of 118. He is followed by Chris Gracela with 30 of 79 three-pointers. Tom Wamukota leads the team in rebounds with 131 followed by Kalif Wright with 121 rebounds.

The Rangers are shooting 52.6 percent from the field this season and 37.5 from the three-point line. Their opponents are 39.3 percent from the field and 31.1 percent from the three-point line. The Rangers have 749 rebounds on the season and average 39.4 a game while their opponents have 484 rebounds on the season and average 25.5 a game.
