Northeast Texas Community College swept KC in a doubleheader at Steam-Flo Park April 11, falling to an overall record of 17-29 and a 5-7 record in conference play.
In the first game down by four runs KC sophomore Molly Mackey pulled a deep shot out into left field for the two-run homer late in the seventh inning, but it was not enough for the Ranger comeback.
Northeast held on to win 6-4.
Mackey went 2-2 with two RBIs and she leads the team with six homeruns on the season. Jalla Johnson went 1-3 in the game, earning two RBI’s.
Pitcher Jessica Simpson received the start and the loss for KC, allowing five hits one homerun and getting one strikeout in five innings pitched.
In the second game KC had momentum going in the second inning, scoring four runs with Jessie Long, Kaitlyn Hipsher, Laura Martinez and Tricia Hock all going for doubles with aggressive running on the pads and each getting one RBI in the game.
Kayla Calvert got the start at the mound for KC. She was impressive through four innings, only allowing one run. In the fifth inning Northeast started its own rally and took advantage of three errors to score six runs and take a 7-4 lead. NTCC never looked back. Calvert finished with four strikeouts.
Northeast scored three more runs in the seventh to earn a 10-5 win over KC.
Haley Manson pitched all seven innings for Northeast getting the win even though KC had eight hits off of her. Manson had no strikeouts.
