A small city girl is making a big name for herself in pageants. Former KC cheerleader Andrea Fox made the Top 15 in Miss Texas USA. She represented Longview at the Miss Texas USA Pageant 2013 earlier this month.

Fox graduated from Spring Hill High School. She started her pageant competing in Miss Northeast Texas 2011. She was crowned first runner-up and competed for Miss Texas 2012. Fox won the title of runner-up at the Miss Northeast Texas 2012 competition.

“I was excited,” Fox said. “It was an amazing feeling. It was like a dream come true. I am from a small town, so it showed you don’t have to be from Houston or Dallas to win.”

Besides pageants, Fox is interested in fitness and nutrition.

Fox transferred from KC to Stephen F. Austin State University majoring in science and kinesiology/food and nutrition. She is applying for an internship with the Dallas Mavericks to learn the ins and outs of training professional athletes.

After taking kinesiology/ food and nutrition, Fox became passionate about fighting childhood obesity.

“As a child I struggled with my body image, and I really want to help kids be healthy,” Fox said.

Fox is organizing a 5-K run, but she is not sure where or when it will be.

“I am planning a 5-K run to get kids active,” Fox said. “I would like to  show them the importance of exercise and staying active.”
