Jimmy Anderson became the first KC player this year to be named the Southwest Junior College Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week following his standout performance against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Oct. 24.
“Jimmy Anderson has shown for two years that he can make plays on defense,” KC head coach J.J. Eckert said.
Anderson’s day included two first half interceptions, the second of which he returned 80 yards to the end zone on the last play before the intermission. A penalty negated the score, but Anderson was still credited with his second pickoff, and the Rangers took a 45-14 lead to the locker room.
NEO scored two touchdowns and a safety in the first 5:27 of the third quarter, but Anderson single-handedly turned the momentum back in KC’s favor. After blocking the extra point attempt on the first touchdown, Anderson thwarted NEO’s two-point conversion. He stepped in front of John Goodlett’s pass and returned it 97 yards to increase KC’s lead to 47-28.
Anderson also had two tackles and knocked away a pass.
