Friday, Aug 21, the 2009-2010 Rangerette team made their first team appearance at their annual performance of Showoffs. 36 new freshman Rangerettes were introduced by assistant director and choreographer Shelley Wayne. After a performance by the new KC cheerleaders, the freshman Rangerettes performed their try-out version of the Rangerette field high kick.

The sophomore Rangerettes performed the 2009 version of the Rangerette field high kick as well as this year’s field jazz routine. Rangerette Voice, Michael Wayne, announced both routines.

As tradition called for, the freshman Rangerettes performed their sophomore song. This song was created throughout the course of the week by the freshman to sing to their sophomores. “I felt excited to remember being in their position singing our sophomore song. It was a great feeling to know that they felt the same way singing to us,” said Kelsey Dean, Flower Mound sophomore.

The officer try-out portion of Showoffs consisted of each officer candidate performing the officer strut multiple times. Three former Rangerettes served as judges. The candidates all participated in a summer long process involving teaching, speech giving and interviews in addition to performing the officer strut at Showoffs to culminate the entire process of officer tryouts.

After the current sophomore Rangerettes sang their sophomore song for the 68th line, the new officer line was announced by Rangerette director Dana Blair. The 2008-2009 officers handed off their batons as each new officer was announced.

The new 2009-2010 officer line consists of Lieutenant Erica Stein, Tyler sophomore, Lt. Rachel Lunsford, Whitehouse sophomore, Lt. Claire Cumbie, Lufkin sophomore, Lt. Nicole Ahlfinger, Richardson sophomore and Captain Dru Dawkins, Whitehouse sophomore.

“It was such an emotional day and I was so happy that everyone did so well. It is an honor and privilege to have been chosen,” said Dawkins.
